The TRIPLE-F recognises that the integration of gender equality, disability, and social inclusion leads to more equitable and sustainable outcomes. The goal of this TRIPLE-F GEDSI policy is that the TRIPLE-F actively supports, and makes a positive difference to, gender equality, disability, and social inclusion. Therefore, this policy makes the following commitments; The TRIPLE-F will build awareness of, and commitment to, principles of gender equality, disability, and social inclusion throughout its work. The TRIPLE-F will be proactive and deliberate in ensuring participation and decision making reflects its commitments to gender equality, disability, and social inclusion. The TRIPLE-F’s approaches to gender equality, disability, and social inclusion will be tailored to the contexts in which they work. The TRIPLE-F will track, analyse, measure and report on progress towards its gender equality, disability, and socially inclusion commitments. Gender Equality is integral to TRIPLE-F’s Rights based commitment and value base and is therefore to be seen as an important aspect of the rights based approach in light of the all-pervasive systemic gender discrimination and gender inequality. Gender based discrimination is the most widespread form of systemic discrimination and gender inequalities permeate all societies and organisations. Commitment to rights and gender equality are crosscutting objectives that permeate all programme objectives in areas of development, relief, advocacy and information work. TRIPLE-F recognises that gender relations and inequalities are fundamental causes of poverty. Women and girls do not enjoy the same status, power or access to and control over resources as men and boys. This situation is unacceptable. Principles of equity and social justice require us to work to ensure that everyone has equal opportunity for expressing and using their potential, irrespective of sex, age, race, colour, class, caste, religion, ethnic background, sexual orientation, HIV status or disability. TRIPLE-F is fully committed to channeling energy, effort and resources into processes that create a society that values women, men, girls and boys equally. TRIPLE-F has increasingly worked with a gender perspective over the years. This experience has led us to acknowledge that women’s empowerment and the recognition of women’s rights as human rights are essential for sustainable development and can be empowering for everyone. It has also taught us that working with a gender perspective means involving and engaging men and boys in order to improve the status of women and girls. These lessons – along with the need for improved learning and monitoring around gender issues and clear accountability mechanisms – have guided the development of our gender policy.
